A DAY IN SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco has become one of my favorite places to explore. I never thought SF would be a top choice for me but I find myself always wanting to go back. When I have a layover coming from or going to Hawaii, I always set my layover to have an extended amount of time in the Bay Area. I know what you may be thinking… leaving the airport just for the day; but It’s not as scary as you think. I just pack my carry-on tote as I would if I were leaving the house for the day, and check in my big suitcase. So once you get off the plane, they will keep your large suitcase and you can take your tote with all your daily necessities. From SFO to the Marina District is an easy 20-minute Uber, and you have so many options that are easily walkable (in my opinion). I find that I want to have at least a 6-7 + hour layover to be able to see something, have a coffee, and not feel rushed back to the airport. Even if you have a layover or just looking for some things to do, here are my favorites…

MARINA/FILLMORE DISTRICT

Golden Gate Bridge View – At this location, you can see a view of the bridge and take a walk along the path. I love going to the sunset and bringing my writing book or taking a walk with my music.

Palace of Fine Arts – If you decide to see the Golden Gate Bridge, this is an easy walk and a hidden gem. The architecture alone is breathtaking, we were able to walk outdoors and enjoy the beauty.

Presidio – Presidio is the Central Park of SF in my opinion. The park is huge filled with different museums, activities, and even a tennis club, etc.

Japantown – A block down from Fillmore Street, Japantown was fun to explore. My favorite was the skincare and stationery shops.

Rose’s Cafe – I love to come here an have a mocha and read. The staff is so kind and the space is peaceful.

Fillmore Street

Fillmore Street has so many shops, cafes, and restaurants, to explore. Just walking you will find things to do. Some of my favorites are…

Nest – French-inspired shops with accessories, books, home decor, and gifts.

Blue Bottle – My favorite coffee shop to visit when on the mainland

Other shops – Le Labo, Aesop, L’Occitane, Browser Books, PaperSource

Chestnut street

When walking down Fillmore (towards the water) you will run into Chestnut which also has its own set of shops and restaurants to explore.

In conclusion, I would Uber from SFO to Bluebottle Coffee on Fillmore, grab my mocha, and start my exploring. I would walk on Fillmore Street heading toward Chestnut Street, stopping in any shops that were calling my name. and then Uber (or walk…) to the Palace of Fine Arts.

PALO ALTO/LOS GATOS

Town & Country Village in Palo Alto – I love this shopping center, filled with restaurants, shops, groceries, and bakeries; it’s one of my favorites to stop at when driving through Palo Alto. A few of my recommendations…

Telefèric Barcelona – is one of my favorite restaurants in California. Spanish tapas and the perfect ambiance for any time of day or occasion.

Trader Joe’s – If you live in Hawaii, you understand.

Manresa Bread – Pastries, coffee, and bread.

Diptyque – Fragrance, candles, gifts.

Fillmore & 5th – Pre-loved clothing and can always find quality brands.

Sierra Vista Lookout in San Jose – I went for sunset and it was absolutely worth the drive.
