I have been coming to Market since I was young. There is something remarkable about how a small town can transform into a cultural center that draws people from across the country and even the world. Santa Fe has layered history and a unique aura, she really comes alive during this time of year. The week leading up to Market is just as important as the weekend, gallery openings, community gatherings, artist talks, and more. By the time the weekend arrives, the city feels vibrant in a way that is both celebratory and deeply rooted in tradition.
It has been a few years since I last attended. Tennis and academic commitments claimed much of my fall seasons, and Market became something I missed more than I experienced. This year, though, after completing a summer internship in Washington, D.C., I made it back for a week in Santa Fe.
Among the highlights for me are always the artists themselves, their ability to preserve and reimagine traditions, each offering a perspective into their traditions and background.
Market is able to bring together a community built around creativity, history, and shared appreciation.
